Emo Award Winner November 2009
Stephen Dowds is a winner at the double.
The 17-year-old scored the final goal when he captained Banbridge Academy to a recent 4-2 victory over Wallace High School in the final of hockey’s McCullough Cup. And now he’s a winner in the Sunday Life’s campaign to encourage sports stars of the future. Stephen picks up £400 in the Emo Sports Awards, sponsored by Northern Ireland’s largest independent oil company in partnership with the Mary Peters Trust. Stephen Watt, Ulster Hockey’s high performance manager, says: “Stephen has already achieved a lot and is undoubtedly one of the leading young players in Irish hockey.
“He has a very bright future and has every chance of realising his ambition to become a senior international player.”
